The grapes come from the Vlaeberg Mountains, the highest point of the Polkadraai Mountains. Farmers used to hoist colored flags here to signal to passing ships on the spice route that new goods were needed in the port of Table Bay. With this modern expression of Cabernet Francs, Raats has now symbolically hoisted a flag to show what the winery has to offer – with success. Inviting aromas of blueberries and blackberries pamper the senses, as do hints of rose petals and exotic spices. On the palate, the notes of dark fruit are accompanied by licorice and cedar. The silky smooth texture and fresh acidity are in beautiful harmony with each other. Soft tannins and gentle hints of dark chocolate and vanilla lend this full-bodied red wine complexity and elegance.
