More information about Schlenkerla Weichsel Red beer is a term used for various brewery products. There are Belgian examples and in England, too, ales are produced in the typical copper-red color. In some places, smoked or brown beer is called this, but the best-known variant is definitely Nuremberg red beer. This red beer has been brewed since the Middle Ages and was the most popular brew in the region for a long time. Malt kilned over smoke is responsible for the strong red color. Over time, the traditional red beer has given way to more modern beer styles, but for some years now breweries in and around Nuremberg have been trying to revive the classic. Bamberger Heller Bräu is one of them. This traditional brewery is one of the oldest breweries in the city and brews what is probably the most famous smoked beer in the world. In addition to several varieties of its popular Schlenkerla Rauchbier, the team has built up a selection of fine Franconian beer specialties in recent years. The latest addition is Schlenkerla Weichsel. The basis for this copper-red beer is malt kilned over smoke. For an extra fruity taste, cherry wood was used for smoking instead of the usual beech wood. Noble aroma hops round off the composition harmoniously. The strong red beer combines a beautiful smoky note with hints of freshly harvested wild berries and a soft, fruity sweetness.
