In Europe they have been cultivated for hundreds of years in warm, dry areas, yet nowhere in the alpine region do apricots thrive as in Venosta. Incidentally, the Venosta apricots used in the manufacture of our apricot schnapps at Zu Plun are actually a unique botanic variety, which is also sought out by some distillers in Austria. Apricot brandies are most successful when slightly over-ripened fruits are harvested, pitted, and immediately mashed as they come off of the trees. The hard manual labor and precise art of distillation are well rewarded. In this case, the reward is an apricot brandy, which is inciting and pure with a delicate, characteristic flavor.
