The same grape varieties in very similar proportions to the large „Dominus‘ – approx. 90 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon supplemented by Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc in roughly equal proportions – can also be found in the „Napanook‘, which has been vinified since 1996. And yet it is a wine with its very own character. Less wood in the ageing process and grapes exclusively from the old, historic part of the estate from the 19th century make for a more fruit-orientated and more accessible wine. Nevertheless, the term „second wine‘ would do the „Napanook‘ an injustice. This may be true on a purely formal technical level, but it certainly does not do justice to its inspiring fruit, structure and exciting, independent style.
