Westmalle Brewery, known as a pioneering Trappist abbey with almost 200 years of brewing history, has played a crucial role in advancing the cherished tradition of monastic brewing. Since its establishment in 1836, the brothers of ‚Our Lady of the Sacred Heart‘ have brewed a single, low-alcohol recipe, using carefully selected barley varieties, a well-balanced blend of hop flowers, homegrown yeast, and pure water from the deep Diestian layer. Westmalle’s Extra Blonde, a thirst-quenching beer with rich aromas, fruity notes, and a full-bodied flavour, is the preferred beer for the Trappist Monks and their guests during lunchtime due to its lower ABV compared to the Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel. Brewed only twice a year with water, barley malt, and hop cones, this top-fermented, golden blonde Belgian beer is perfect for enjoying in the summer months when seeking a light and refreshing option
