Beschreibung

More information about Black Kuni The Franconian town of Lauf has a very special patron saint: the Empress and later Saint Cunegonde is the original mother of Lauf. The founding of the town in the Nuremberg metropolitan region goes back to a legend: according to folklore, Empress Cunegonde and her retinue were on their way to Regensburg. The column stopped at a ford so that the thirsty empress could draw some water from the Pegnitz. Her valuable headdress fell into the river. The water was searched in vain, but no one could find the empress’s crown. Henry II’s wife promised to build a chapel if her jewel was found, but her promise was not kept: treasure hunters and soldiers of fortune from near and far did their best to find the imperial diadem. They cleared the Pegnitz of all garbage, dirt and sand, but failed to find it. However, the Pegnitz did benefit from the treasure hunters‘ hard work: once cleaned up, the water could once again flow undisturbed through the riverbed, providing the perfect place for mills. A settlement quickly grew up around the ford and Lauf was born. The Simon brewery in Lauf has dedicated a beer to St. Kunigunde: Schwarze Kuni is a dark wheat bock with a strong 7.0% alcohol content and a delicately spicy aroma. Cheers to St. Cunegonde and her lost crown!
