More information about Kaland Kümmel The idea for the name of Kaland Kümmel came from the boss’s wife. We wanted to call the schnapps simply Kümmel, plain and to the point – just like our Kümmel is. But somehow that didn’t really do the distillate justice. That’s when she came up with the name Kaland Kümmel, which fits like a glove and crowns our very first spirit with a dignified name!How is Kaland Kümmel produced?Kaland Kümmel is made with real caraway seeds from Brandenburg, which are packed with heavenly aromas. Our caraway also contains aniseed and fennel – and deliciously juicy lemons from Amalfi, which are also used in our lemon liqueur and lemon spirit.We have made the tradition of previous generations our own. That’s why we always distil our Kaland Kümmel at the beginning of the month. Immediately after distillation, the spirit is milky and initially needs a lot of rest and a final filtration to grow to its actual size.What does Kaland Kümmel taste like?The addition of aniseed and fennel makes Kaland Kümmel a wonderfully spicy drinking experience. The lemon brings a fresh lightness to the distillate.An exceptional spirit, not just in terms of taste – no other Maennerhobby spirit has won as many prizes as our first: Kaland Kümmel.What does Kaland mean?The name Kaland Kümmel originally comes from the meeting place where spiritual and secular people regularly met at the beginning of the month to discuss society and do good deeds. Kaland is derived from calendar.At these meetings, there was not only a lot of discussion, but also a lot of spackling. Of course, this required a good nightcap. And here in northern Germany, there’s really only one thing to do that: caraway schnapps.
