Year after year, Castello di Ama offers compelling proof that, despite the many Supertuscans built on French varietal blends, Sangiovese has not been forgotten. A prime example is the „Gran Selezione? from the top vineyard site of San Lorenzo. 80% of Tuscany’s signature grape forms the backbone, with 13% Merlot (a touch of modernity that can’t be denied) adding richness and a creamy texture, and 7% Malvasia Nera providing a distinctive twist. The 2021 vintage delivers a generous basket of varietally typical fruit (led by black cherry), fine-grained tannins that promise great aging potential, and that mineral-spiced character found only in the finest Chianti. A captivating liaison between Tuscan tradition (Sangiovese) and oenological modernity (Merlot, barrique aging).
